The Beauty of Silence

“ In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after Truth. -Mahatma Gandhi

Often in today’s world we lose the beauty of being in Silence. In those moments when we can sit and just listen to our hearts. We are constantly turning on the radio, the TV or starting meaningless conversations to avoid being by ourselves in silence. I have often wondered why that is. Are we scared of what we will hear? Are we not that interested in ourselves? For a species that consistently claims to be interested in inner growth and finding ourselves, there is a large sense of irony in the idea that we won’t be alone to hear what we have to say.

Being in silence to listen, to meditate, to explore your emotions, or to journal is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. We are constantly running and going from one thing to the next. Spending time alone and in quiet is nourishing to your soul. Taking time for self reflection and listening to who you really are is the only way you can find the guidance that is critical in making the life you want. Have something bothering you, a decision you are struggling to make? Finding the answer is easy- just listen to your inner guidance. You have the answers, you just need to be alone long enough to hear it.

If you feel as though there isn’t enough time and it isn’t a priority, I would ask you- what could possibly be more important? Not giving this time to yourself is not only draining you, but also keeping you from being the best you. That is the best mother you can be, the best friend you can be, the best employee you can be. Developing your sense of self is critical for having happiness in your life and this can only be done when you are exploring who you are.
